Konark -(Sun Temple),Orissa




This  Konark dance festival  is among the biggest contemporary festivals.  The renowned Music and Dance Festival of Konark is ideal to understand the varied cultural heritage of India.  The Sun Temple, pristine beaches and rich culture and heritage make Konark a popular tourist destination.  Kuruma  - Situated 8km the south-east of the sun temple of Konark is a popular Buddhist site.  Ramchandi Temple  - Situated 7km enroute to Konark on the marine road from Puri.

Usually visitors starts from  Bhubaneswar  and covers Puri and Konark in a day.  To reach Konark from Bhubaneswar, after traveling 20km take a left turn once you reach  Pipli  village.  There is also a popular story about why Ramachandi left Konark after the Muslim Suleman Kalapahad destroyed the Sun temple.  Konark is also mentioned in the Puranas as Mundira or Mundirasvamin. During the 12th century, the Muslim rulers invaded India.  Goddess Ramchandi, the presiding deity of the Konark  region is worshiped here with reverence.

Konark is one of the most prominent cities of Odisha.  The best time to visit Konark is from October to March.  Konark has successfully done several projects in the field of Sewage Treatment and reclaimed precious water for reuse.  Staying at exotic resorts here would be much fun as most of them are located close to the Konark Temple.  But there are a number of decent accomodations in Konark that rightly cater to every need of a discerning traveler.
